What is the hardest thing you faced in Canada as a new immigrant?

Beginning of a new life with no friends or family

When I moved here, I was all by myself. I had no friends to hang out with or no family to have my back. It’s difficult being lonely in a new country but it’s important to stick to the purpose of moving here. At the end of the day, what kept me going was the core purpose of making the most out of my career and life.

A need to do everything on my own

Life in India was easy. I had a cook, maid and driver to help me with my daily work. When I moved here, on top of studying and working, I had to prepare my own meals and do my household chores. Being a vegetarian, I did not have many choices here which made it even more difficult. But with time, I learned to cook and manage my time well.

Weather

In India, the lowest I saw was +1 to 2 degree Celsius. In Canada, winter is difficult. I witnessed temperatures going down upto -40 and freezing northern winds. During my first winter, I fell multiple times in the freezing rain and had a hard time dealing with cold temperatures. With time, I started covering myself up to prevent myself from freezing cold here.

And after nearly three years, I am in love with the people and culture here. I no longer complain about snow( not always though!). And, I had the privilege of meeting some of the best people here here.

( Canada is a paradise for hikers)

( We do celebrate some festivals here)
